La regola per esprimere lo scopo in inglese è molto semplice:

VERBI	SOSTANTIVI
Si usa in order to (più formale) o semplicemente to (più colloquiale) seguiti dalla forma semplice del verbo	For si usa davanti ai sostantivi
I went to London to study English I went to London in order to study English	I went to the supermarket for some vegetables
